Aluminum & Vinyl Pool Fencing Built to Pass Inspection and Last

Installing a new pool is exciting. Dealing with permits, inspections, and pool fence requirements isn't.

At Tri-State Fence & Deck, we install code-compliant pool fences throughout Sewell, Washington Township, Gloucester County, and surrounding South Jersey communities. If you're building a new in-ground pool or replacing an older enclosure, we make the process straightforward.

Since 2006, we have installed residential fencing throughout Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington Counties. Every project is personally overseen by Eriberto Torres Sr. or Eriberto Torres Jr., ensuring the same level of attention from estimate to installation.

Why South Jersey Homeowners Choose Aluminum Pool Fencing

For most pool installations in Sewell and Washington Township, we recommend aluminum.

Unlike wood, aluminum won't rot, warp, or require ongoing staining. Unlike steel, it won't rust when exposed to chlorine, saltwater systems, or year-round moisture. Most importantly, standard pool-grade aluminum fencing is manufactured to meet New Jersey's strict pool barrier requirements while maintaining clean sightlines around the pool.

Benefits of aluminum pool fencing include:

  • Minimum height: 48 inches above grade, measured on the exterior (non-pool) side
  • Picket spacing: 1¾ inches maximum where horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart; 4 inches maximum where horizontal rails are 45 inches or more apart
  • Bottom clearance: 2 inches maximum on non-solid surfaces; 4 inches maximum on solid surfaces
  • Gate hardware: Self-closing, self-latching, opens outward away from the pool — [Section 305.3](UpChapter 3 General Compliance: New Jersey Swimming Pool and Spa Code 2018 | UpCodes)

For homeowners who want complete backyard privacy, we also install vinyl pool fencing that provides both security and visual screening.

What Does a Pool Fence Cost in
Sewell, NJ?

Pool fence pricing depends on several factors, including total linear footage, fence material selection, number of gates required and site grading conditions. The permit requirements and HOA approval requirements may also influence the price.

Every pool layout is different, which is why we provide written on-site estimates rather than generic online pricing.

During your consultation, we'll measure the pool area, review local code requirements, discuss material options, and provide a clear proposal outlining exactly what is included.

No hidden fees. No surprise add-ons after installation begins.

New Jersey Pool Fence Requirements

Before a pool can pass final inspection, the enclosure must meet New Jersey pool barrier regulations.

The requirements most commonly reviewed during inspection include:

  • Minimum fence height of 48 inches
  • Maximum 2-inch gap beneath the fence
  • Openings that prevent passage of a 4-inch sphere
  • Maximum vertical picket spacing of 1¾ inches on aluminum pool fencing
  • Self-closing, self-latching gates
  • Proper latch placement and gate hardware
  • Gates that swing away from the pool area

These standards are based on New Jersey's adoption of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC). Specifically, inspectors reference Section 305 of the NJ ISPSC, which establishes the state's pool barrier requirements for residential swimming pools.

For homeowners who want to review the requirements themselves, you can view the official code language in the NJ ISPSC 2018 Section 305 and find an additional homeowner-friendly summary through PoolGuard's New Jersey pool fence code guide.

The good news? You don't need to memorize any of these requirements. We design and install every pool enclosure to meet applicable code requirements before the inspector arrives.

Permits and Pool Fence Approvals in Washington Township

Pool fence permits can feel overwhelming for homeowners, especially when they are already coordinating pool construction, landscaping, and other outdoor improvements.

That's why Tri-State handles the process for you.

For homeowners in Washington Township and surrounding Gloucester County communities, we assist with:

  • Permit applications
  • Required documentation
  • Property line verification
  • Utility locating through NJ One Call

Washington Township's Planning and Zoning Department oversees many of the local zoning requirements that may apply to pool and fence projects. Homeowners can review township planning and zoning information on the Washington Township Planning & Zoning Department website, but most clients prefer that we handle the process on their behalf. Before any digging begins, we also coordinate utility marking through NJ One Call. This state-required service helps identify underground utility lines before excavation begins, protecting your property and ensuring compliance with New Jersey excavation laws.

Instead of making multiple trips to the township office, you have one point of contact from start to finish.

Self-Closing Pool Gates and
Safety Hardware

A pool fence is only as effective as the gate that secures it.

While fence panels provide the barrier around your pool, the gate is the most frequently used part of the entire enclosure. That's why New Jersey pool codes place specific requirements on pool gate hardware, including self-closing and self-latching mechanisms designed to help prevent unsupervised access.

Every pool gate we install is designed to meet applicable code requirements and operate reliably for years of everyday use.

When your pool fence is installed correctly from the start, you can focus on enjoying your backyard—not worrying about whether the gate will pass inspection.

How We Build Pool Fences That Last

A pool fence is only as good as the installation behind it. We focus on building an enclosure that remains secure, level, and code-compliant for years to come.

Why Homeowners Throughout South Jersey Choose Tri-State Fence & Deck

Some contractors focus on volume. We focus on getting every installation right — code-compliant, inspection-ready, and built to look like it belongs on the property.

Since 2006, homeowners throughout Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington Counties have trusted Tri-State Fence & Deck for one reason: we combine real local knowledge with hands-on service you can actually count on.

  • Local experience that makes a difference: Pool fence requirements vary by municipality, HOA, and property layout. After years of working across South Jersey, we know the permitting processes, inspection requirements, and site-specific challenges that come with residential pool projects — so nothing catches us off guard.
  • You'll work directly with the owners: When you contact Tri-State, you'll work with Eriberto Torres Sr. or Eriberto Torres Jr. from consultation through final inspection. We're not a call center — we're on the job and available when you have questions.
  • Built for New Jersey: A pool fence has to hold up to more than summer weekends. Our installations are designed for freeze-thaw cycles, seasonal ground movement, and heavy rain — not just the season you're building in.
  • Details that prevent problems: Gate placement, latch hardware, spacing, and setbacks all affect whether a fence passes inspection and actually keeps kids safe. We get these details right the first time, so you're not dealing with reinspections or callbacks.
  • Straightforward communication: Pool projects involve enough moving parts without having to wonder where your fence stands. We explain what to expect at each stage, give honest timelines, and keep you informed without making you chase us down.

The goal is a pool fence that protects your family, complements your property, and gives you confidence the job was done right.
